Amniotic membranes are composed of stem cell tissue and growth factors that can help protect and regenerate the ocular surface of the eye. The anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties of the amniotic membrane are useful in treating the underlying cause and symptoms of dry eye disease. Amniotic membranes are small and thin, they are placed on the cornea (front surface of the eye) in the office. The procedure is non-invasive, safe, and comfortable and takes only a few seconds per eye. This procedure is covered by most medical insurance plans.
